Foods to eat while breastfeeding

Breastfeeding helps you establish a bond with your child. It is very easy to get overwhelmed as you are responsible for providing food for your child. There is one question that you will find yourself asking all the time. Is the milk sufficient? There would be signs if it is not so keep an eye out for them and you will be fine.

It is very important to eat right while breastfeeding. Don’t forget that you have to keep yourself and the baby healthy.

  • Eat food that is high in Protein ( lentils, pulses, eggs, fish and lean meat)
  • Drink lots of water. You will be dehydrated .
  • Good amounts of Starch like bread, rice, Potatoes
  • At least 2 glasses of milk every day
  • Yogurt
  • Include garlic in your diet
  • Fruits and Vegetables

Take Iron and Calcium supplements. You will really need them.

Some foods that could increase your milk production

  • Drumstick
  • Flax seeds
  • Bottle gourd
  • Milk
  • Oats

You can also choose to take supplements that would help you increase your milk production. I used something called as ‘GALACT’. I used to take it along with milk twice a day. (Check with your doctor before you start this)

Foods to avoid

  • Cabbage
  • Broccoli
  • Deep fried food
  • Alcohol

This is the diet I had followed. You can check with your doctor if you have any query or concerns or ask for any other thing you can include in your Diet.
